Father’s Day is a day for sons and daughters everywhere to honor their fathers. One of the best ways to do this is to listen to their fathers’ stories — the good and the not-so-good — and to pass them on. In the case of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, it is important to hear those stories before it is too late.
There are a number of resources available to help people gather family stories, from journals to oral history interview questions. Some such resources are entitled “Dad, I Want to Hear Your Story,” “You Are the Best Dad in the World,” and an upcoming keepsake journal entitled “Grandpa, Tell Me Your Memories” by Katie H. Sweeney, which will be released in mid-July.
This Father’s Day, make it your mission to collect stories!
